Global mortality data indicates cancer as the second-leading cause of death worldwide. Therefore, there's a pressing need to innovate effective treatments address this significant medical and societal challenge. In recent years, X-ray-induced photodynamic therapy (X-PDT) has emerged promising advancement, revolutionizing traditional (PDT) for deeply entrenched malignancies by harnessing penetrating X-rays external stimuli. Recent developments in X-ray have shown trend toward minimizing radiation doses remarkably low levels after proof-of-concept demonstration. Early detection real-time monitoring are crucial aspects treatment. Sophisticated imaging techniques been enhanced introduction luminescence nano-agents, alongside contrast nanomaterials based on attenuation. luminescence-based vivo offers excellent sensitivity superior image quality deep tissues at reasonable cost, due unhindered penetration unimpeded auto-fluorescence X-rays. This review emphasizes significance responsive theranostics, exploring their mechanism action, feasibility, biocompatibility, prospects imaging-guided deep-seated tumors. Additionally, it discusses applications X-PDT treating breast cancer, liver lung skin colorectal cancer.
