Bacterial infection, the cause of many diseases, has become one most severe global public health threats. The emergence antimicrobial resistance poses a significant challenge in treating bacterial infections. Recently, synthetic macrocycles with various well-defined cavities and excellent dynamic, reversible, directional noncovalent interactions can not only form complexation biomarkers or drugs via host–guest recognition but also enable controlled drug delivery response to external stimuli, such as pH, thermal, redox, competitive binding, light irradiation. Therefore, macrocycle-based functional materials have received increasing attention promising candidates for precise on-demand bacteria inhibition. This Perspective provides an overview recent progress design synthesis antibacterial properties. mechanisms applications are discussed detail. Finally, existing challenges future opportunities this emerging research field put forward hope promoting further development toward superior biomedical applications.

Abstract Avoiding the tedious process of crystal cultivation and directly obtaining organic crystals with desirable phosphorescent performance is great significance for studying their structure properties. Herein, a set benzophenone‐cored phosphors bright green afterglow are obtained on large scale through in‐situ generation via an end‐capping strategy to suppress non‐radiative triplet excitons reinforce intermolecular interactions. The ordered arrangement alkyl‐cyano groups as regulators crucial enhancement room‐temperature phosphorescence (RTP) emission, which has been further verified by attenuated lifetimes in isolated states formation inclusion complexes upon binding pillar[5]arenes. Moreover, hierarchical interactions phosphors, including hydrogen bonding, π‐π stacking interactions, van der Waals forces, quantified structures theoretical calculation deeply interpret origins RTP emission. Abstract The continuous exploration of new analogs calixarenes and pillararenes unlocks infinite opportunities in supramolecular chemistry materials. In this work, we introduce a class macrocycle, phenyl‐extended resorcin[4]arenes ( ExR4 ), unique innovative design that incorporates unsubstituted phenylene moieties into the resorcin[4]arene scaffold. Single‐crystal analysis reveals chair‐like conformation for per‐methylated Me‐ExR4 ) twisted “Figure‐of‐eight” shaped per‐hydroxylated OH‐ExR4 ). Notably, demonstrates exceptional adsorption capability toward I 3 − ions an aqueous solution, with rapid kinetic rate 1.18×10 −2 g ⋅ mg −1 min . With the progress of forgery and decryption, traditional encryption technology is apparent not enough, which strongly requires development advanced multidimensional strategies technologies. Photo-stimuli responsive fluorescent materials are promising as candidate for information encryption. Here, we have reported new photo-stimuli by encapsulating photochromic molecules spiropyrans (SPs) into naphthalimide-functionalized silica aerogels. By introducing different modification groups (dimethylamino) 1,8-naphthalimide, obtained two kinds aerogels that emit blue green colors. The aerogels/dye composite exhibits a (dimethylamino-modified aerogel showing green) emission from naphthalimide at 450 nm (520 nm) red around 650 SP. Under exposure to ultraviolet light, SP gradually transformed merocyanine (MC) form, strong absorption band appeared near 540 nm. At time, fluorescence resonance energy-transfer (FRET) process occurred between MC isomer. As irradiation time extended, color changes continuously (green) through FRET process. Using dependence fluorescence, dynamic patterns multiple codes were successfully developed based on these functionalized This work has provided important guidance designing materials.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive drug delivery systems possess immense potential for targeted and controlled release of therapeutics. However, the rapid responsiveness to ROS sustained antibacterial drugs are often limited by challenging microenvironment periodontitis. Integrating ROS-responsive with photocatalytic technologies presents a strategic approach overcome these limitations. Herein, pillararene-embedded covalent organic framework (PCOF) incorporating prodrug thioacetal (TA) has been developed treat This drug-loaded nanoplatform, namely TA-loaded PCOF, utilizes self-amplifying property enhance therapeutic efficacy. PCOFs demonstrate exceptional photosensitivity generation capabilities when employed as carriers. When exposed ROS, TA within nanoplatform was activated cleaved into cinnamaldehyde (CA), highly potent compound. By leveraging visible light activate site-specific infection targeting, PCOF effectively alleviated periodontitis, thereby advancing field systems.

Macrocyclic compounds have shown great potential in constructing tunable fluorochromic systems and functional supramolecular materials owing to their unique structural merits, facile functionalization, diverse applications. In this perspective, we summarize recent progress macrocycle-based applications smart materials, which are classified by the types of macrocycles. Classical macrocycles, including cyclodextrins, cucurbiturils, calixarenes, pillararenes, guest binding-, vapor-, mechano-, charge-transfer-induced fluorescence-switching behaviors. Emerging such as tetraphenylethylene-based, dicyano-based, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-based exhibit wide-range tunability emission colors multi-stimuli-responsive fluorescence modulation. Furthermore, innovations scaffolds mechanisms will unlock new horizons material engineering. Finally, a brief outlook on promising area research is outlined. This perspective aims provide timely insight into burgeoning chemistry materials.
