Synthesis, Photophysical, Electrochemical, and Catalytic Properties of Heterobimetallic Azomethine-Bridged Cu(I)/Fe(Ii) Complexes Containing Chelating Phosphine Ligand DOI

A new series of hybrid Cu(I)/Fe(II) complexes with the formula [Cu(Fc-HC=NC11H11N2O)(dppe)]X (1b-4b) [where dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane and X NO3− (1b), ClO4− (2b), BF4− (3b), PF6− (4b)] was synthesized by reacting Fc-HC=NC11H11N2O [Cu(MeCN)4]X in presence one equivalent dppe. The coordination chemistry these investigated, their structures were characterized using elemental analysis, FTIR, 1H NMR, 31P UV-visible spectroscopy, mass spectrometry. Thermal stability evaluated through thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), crystal structure representative complex 2b clarified X-ray powder diffraction. Electrochemical studies revealed quasireversible redox behaviour associated Cu(I)/Cu(II) Fe(II)/Fe(III) couples, which influenced chelating phosphine ligand. All exhibited red-shifted emission attributed to ligand-ligand charge transfer (LLCT), metal-ligand (MLCT), or both, varied significantly counter anion Catalytic activity tests for C-N coupling aryl amines halides showed that ancillary ligand superior performance compared those PPh3. Additionally, ions played a critical role determining yield products.
