ABSTRACT The current study exploited cheese whey supernatant (CWS) as a renewable resource for polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) formation. Structure identification and investigating the influence of lipid membranes' chemistry on PHA structuration were detailed. Plastic generation exacerbates the challenge of solid waste management. Moreover, plastics emit substantial amounts microplastics, which infiltrate environment and food chain, posing significant environmental risks. Compounded by their production from fossil fuels, such as crude oil natural gas, present a formidable concern. Abstract Innovative technologies can convert food waste into an economic opportunity. A potential approach to be discussed in this review article is combining microalgae cultivation with catalytic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and chitosan platforms.
