Plastic

key
proposed
loss
pathway
for
plastic
in
aquatic
environments.
However,
the
specific
solar
excitation
wavelengths
that
drive
remain
unknown,
limiting
our
ability
to
model
and
predict
rates
natural
To
better
understand
impact
of
wavelength
on
rates,
we
measured
sensitivity
variety
transparent
semitransparent
commercial
postconsumer
films
with
wide-spanning
polymer
chemistries.
We
irradiated
using
custom-built
light-emitting
diode
(LED)
photoreactors
emit
light
range
275
445
nm
found
plastics
exhibit
strong
sensitivity,
producing
highest
DOC
release
short
ultraviolet
(UV)
light.
additionally
calculated
quantum
yield
trends
then
activation
spectra.
UV
between
300–350
responsible
most
all
compositions
predicted
within
water
columns.
