This review summarizes recent applications of small organic and inorganic molecules as catalysts or solvents (chemical hands scissors) in the production furfural (FA), 5-(hydroxymethyl)furfural (HMF), 5-(chloromethyl)furfural (CMF). The possible transformation lignocellulosic biomass into a one-pot configuration two-step technique based on preliminary separation hemicellulose, lignin cellulose with subsequent hydrolysis separated polysaccharides is compared discussed. Interestingly, these rather simple cheap are catalytically active enable high rate conversion its derivatives. Usually, elevated pressure reaction temperatures above 150 °C necessary for effective dehydration situ formed monosaccharides; nevertheless, ionic liquids deep eutectic significant decrease temperature performance discussed process at ambient pressure.
