Reaction-based fluorogenic sensing of lethal cyanide anions in aqueous matrices remains a big challenge. We have revisited the reported approach about an intramolecular crossed-benzoin reaction leading to release phenol-based fluorophore. Fluorescence assays and RP-HPLC-MS analyses helped us highlight its limitations related poor stability probes impossibility achieve molecular amplification despite assumed catalytic activation mechanism. Traceless cleavable linker strategies were considered obtain usable cyanide-responsive chemodosimeters statistical fluorescence data been conducted depth accurately delineate their performances, especially limit detection (LOD).
