A growing body of research has revealed that firms leverage nationalism in their strategies. However, it is unclear why some are more likely to do so than others. This paper uses institutional theory address this question and examines the influences domestic foreign customers. We study firms’ responses nationalist movements, a type sociopolitical mobilization arising response international controversies. argue that, as attempt maintain legitimacy with customers, those customers endorse whereas from antagonistic countries less so.
