ABSTRACT Green turtles, Chelonia mydas , migrate to the Ogasawara Islands for breeding once every few years. However, foraging grounds of these turtles prior their visit remain uncertain. In this study, we examined genetic similarity between macroalgal specimens collected from various coastal regions and fragments in gut contents green visiting order estimate grounds. A total 4 green, 13 brown, 3 red algal species were identified 62 adult turtles. Macroalgal composition differed by year turtle harvest, but not sex turtle. Grateloupia angusta Besa paradoxa most abundant temperate obtained intestines, they are rarely distributed around Islands. Therefore, cox 1 gene and/or 2‐ spacer region, which useful detect intraspecific diversity, analyzed two intestines sea coasts. Four haplotypes G. recovered identical some Japanese Pacific coasts Korean islands. contrast, a single haplotype B. retrieved was that Enoshima, is close Tokyo. These data suggest may have come different depending on year. Determining origin diets important better understand migratory connectivity grazing
