Most sociophysics opinion dynamics simulations assume that contacts between agents lead to greater similarity of opinions, and there is a tendency for having similar opinions group together. These mechanisms result, in many types models, significant polarization, understood as separation groups conflicting opinions. The addition inflexible (zealots) or mechanisms, which drive even further apart, only exacerbates these polarizing processes. Using universal mathematical framework, formulated the language utility functions, we present novel simulation results. Politics has in recent decades entered an era of intense polarization. Explanations have implicated digital media, with the so-called echo chamber remaining a dominant causal hypothesis despite growing challenge by empirical evidence. This paper suggests that this mounting evidence provides not only reason to reject but also foundation for alternative mechanism. To propose such mechanism, draws on literatures affective polarization, and opinion dynamics. From polarization literature, we follow move from seeing as diverging issue positions rooted sorting: alignment differences which is effectively dividing electorate into two increasingly homogeneous megaparties. explain rise sorting, dynamics media research present model essentially turns its head: it isolation opposing views drives precisely fact bring us interact outside our local bubble. When individuals locally, outcome stable plural patchwork cross-cutting conflicts. By encouraging nonlocal interaction, drive conflicts along partisan lines, thus effacing counterbalancing effects heterogeneity. Evolutionary game theory is a truly interdisciplinary subject that goes well beyond the limits of biology. Mathematical minds get hooked up in simple models for evolution and often gradually move into other parts evolutionary biology or ecology. Social scientists realize how much they can learn from thinking transfer insight was originally generated Computer use their algorithms to explore new field where machines not only environment, but also each other. The breadth focus on few very popular issues, such as cooperation, comes at price: several insights are re-discovered different fields under labels with heroes modelling traditions. For example, reciprocity spatial structure treated differently. Will we continue develop things parallel? Or converge single set ideas, tradition eventually software repository? will these cross-fertilize other, learning engaging constructive exchange between fields? Ultimately, popularity rests its explanatory power, intuitive character models. This article part theme issue ‘Half century games: synthesis theory, application future directions’.

Recent research suggests that political polarization has spilled over into otherwise mundane areas of social life. And yet, the size, shape, and depth spillage popular culture is generally unknown. Relying on a sample 135 most widely known movies, TV shows, musicians, sports, leisure activities, we investigate this question. We find oil spill large but loosely organized multiple fairly shallow pools. Cultural also asymmetric. Liberals like wide variety culture, do not dislike conservative their tastes are more rooted in sociodemographics. Conservatives, other hand, much narrower range created liked by Black urban liberals, directly ideology. Potential implications an asymmetric war, ideas for future research, discussed.

Swarmalators are oscillators that can swarm as well sync via a dynamic balance between their spatial proximity and phase similarity. Swarmalator models employed so far in the literature comprise only one-dimensional variables to represent intrinsic dynamics of natural collectives. Nevertheless, latter indeed be represented more realistically by high-dimensional variables.
