Objective: Federal loan repayment programs are one strategy to address the U.S.’s shortage of behavioral health providers. This scoping review aims identify and characterize evidence federal programs’ impact on workforce in U.S. Methods: A was conducted accordance with Joanna Briggs Institute’s methodology for reviews. Databases searched were Ovid Medline, Web Science, PsycInfo, EconLit, PAIS Index, Embase; grey literature also reviewed. Two coders screened each abstract full-text extracted study data. Findings narratively synthesized conceptually organized. Results: After screening, search yielded 17 articles that met eligibility criteria. Of these, 8 peer-reviewed publications, all but article evaluated National Health Service Corps (NHSC) program. organized into six categories: 1) descriptive studies NHSC needs (k=4); 2) providers’ perceptions experiences (k=2); 3) associations between funding number providers 4) productivity capacity (k=3); 5) program recruitment retention (k=4). Conclusions: The scientific their is relatively limited. Though an important effective tool shortage, additional policy strategies needed attract retain diversify workforce.

In recent years, the United States has been experiencing historically high suicide rates. face of mental health care provider shortages that leave millions needing to travel longer find providers with schedule openings, if any are available at all, inaccessibility become increasingly central in explaining suicidality. To examine relationship between access and suicide, we leverage a dataset mapping all licensed US psychiatrists psychotherapists ( N = 711,214), as early 2020, employ real-world transportation data model patients’ mobility barriers. We strong association reduced spatial-social accessibility heightened risk. Using machine learning approach condition on host 22 contextual factors known be implicated (e.g., race, education, divorce, gun shop prevalence), locales where individuals seeking can fewer providers, already more likely saturated by demand, risk is increased (3.2% for each SD psychiatrist accessibility; 2.3% psychotherapists). Additionally, observe local inequalities associated further underscoring need research account highly localized barriers preventing many Americans from accessing needed services.

Studying the intricacies of individual subjects' moods and cognitive processing over extended periods time presents a formidable challenge in medicine. While much systems neuroscience appropriately focuses on link between neural circuit functions well-constrained behaviors short timescales (e.g., trials, hours), many mental health conditions involve complex interactions mood cognition that are non-stationary across behavioral contexts evolve timescales. Here, we discuss opportunities, challenges, possible future directions computational psychiatry to quantify continuously monitored behaviors. Importance Depressive symptoms have increased among US adolescents since 2010. It remains unclear as to what extent this increase will persist into young adulthood, potentially turning the youth mental health crisis a adult crisis. Objective To test association between birth cohort and adolescent depressive at ages 18, 19 20, 21 22 years changes in these by cohort. Design, Setting, Participants This panel study analyzed data from Monitoring Future longitudinal survey 1990 2019, including cohorts 1972 2001. Survey respondents were recruited high schools 12th grade approximately aged 18 (at baseline) through age (during mail web follow-up). Data analysis was conducted April October 2023. Exposure score (>12 vs ≤12, with >12 representing top-decile scores) on scale examining affective items (eg, “Life often seems meaningless”). Main Outcomes Measures High (vs lower) 20 years. Results The 36 552 included 597 females (50.5%), most reported having parent who graduated college (44.8%). While past research suggested that living arrangements are associated with suicide death, no study has examined the impact of sustained and change in arrangements. Also, previous survival analysis studies only reported a single hazard ratio (HR), whereas actual HR may over time. We aimed to address these limitations using causal inference approaches.

Abstract Background Suicide mortality remains a global health concern, and community characteristics affect regional variations in suicide. This study investigated spatially clustered patterns of suicide rates South Korea evaluated the impact factors on Methods were estimated by sex, age group, district, using 2021 Cause Death Statistics from MicroData Integrated Service. Community-determinant data for or nearest year collected Korean Statistical Information The spatial autocorrelation sex was examined based Global Moran’s I index. Geographically weighted regression (GWR) used to discern influence determinants Results significantly higher among men (40.64 per 100,000) adults over 65 years (43.18 100,000). male exhibited strong dependence, as indicated high with p < 0.001, highlighting importance conducting analysis. In GWR model calibration, subset community’s structure, single-person household composition, access mental healthcare centers, unmet medical needs selected explain mortality. These disproportionately increased risk suicide, varying region. coefficients each variable vary widely across 249 districts: aging index (Q1:0.06–Q3:0.46), households (Q1:0.22–Q3:0.35), psychiatric clinics (Q1:-0.20–Q3:-0.01), (Q1:0.09–Q3:0.14). Conclusions Community cultural structural exacerbate disparities men. influencing exhibit differential effects significance depending community, need efficient resource allocation A regionally tailored approach is crucial effective control management system.
