Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) are widely recognized as the result of exogenous infecting ancestral germline, stabilizing integration and vertical transmission during human genetic evolution. To date, (ERVs) appear to have been selected for physiological functions with loss retrotransposable capabilities. ERV elements were previously regarded junk DNA a long time. Since then, aberrant activation expression ERVs observed in development many kinds diseases, their role has explored variety disorders such cancer. The results show that specific play respective crucial roles. Among them, non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) transcribed from long-terminal repeat regions often key factors. lncRNAs over 200 nucleotides size typically bind DNA, RNA, proteins perform biological functions. Dysregulated implicated diseases. In particular, studies shown some ERV-derived tumor-suppressive or oncogenic effect, displaying significant functional bidirectionality.
