Abstract
Stayers
are
an
important
component
of
the
internal
migration
system,
yet
despite
their
numerical
significance,
they
often
treated
as
ancillary
to
movers
in
literature.
As
a
result,
there
is
conflict
between
mobility‐centric
view
immobility
undesirable
and
developing
narratives
which
recognise
staying
active
consciously
made
decision.
We
therefore
need
rethink
conceptually
empirically
shed
light
on
numerically
dominant
population
that
has
largely
been
neglected.
Using
Australia
case
study,
this
paper
examines
whether
being
stayer
positive
or
negative
association
with
life
satisfaction,
relationship
varies
by
(1)
preference
for
leaving,
(2)
cities
regional
areas,
(3)
before
during
onset
pandemic.
By
first
reconceptualising
process
distinguishing
voluntary
involuntary
stayers,
satisfaction
outcomes

During
the
outbreak
of
COVID-19
pandemic,
anecdotal
evidence
a
"rural
revival"
emerged
mirroring
"urban
exodus"
hypothesis.
Currently,
we
know
that
internal
migration
to
rural
areas
increased
in
some
countries
during
2020,
although
not
with
intensity
speculated
by
media.
However,
little
is
known
about
attributes
attracting
migrants,
demographic
composition
inflows,
and
if
counterurbanisation
movements
persisted
over
2021.
Drawing
on
administrative
population
register
data,
analysed
main
types
pulling
migrants
Spain
their
characteristics,
namely
age,
sex
place
birth
2020
using
period
2016-2019
as
benchmark.
Our
results
show
in-migration
close
cities
high
prevalence

homes
while
out-migration
declined.

inflows

Existing
empirical
work

on
assessing
the
effectiveness
of
nonpharmaceutical
interventions

Abstract
After
the
outbreak
of
COVID‐19
pandemic,
media
abounded
with
stories
people
‘fleeing
city‐centres’
and
‘finding
refuge
in
countryside’.
A
recurrent
argument
is
that
shift
towards
remote
work
has
prompted
individuals
to
reconsider
their
living
situation

from
workplace.

Abstract
Amidst
the
COVID-19
pandemic,
speculations
on
decline
of
major
cities
have
surged,
with
studies
noting
temporary
population
decreases
across
various
worldwide.
However,
research
scarcely
addresses
pandemic’s
enduring
influence
perceptions
city
living.
Rather
than
exploring
mid-
to
long-term
impacts,
current
literature
focuses
mainly
comparing
changes
in
residential
preferences
during
and
before
pandemic.
To
fill
this
gap,
we
conducted
a
randomized
conjoint
experiment
scrutinize
altered
attitudes
toward
residing
Tokyo
Metropolis

In
the
past
10
years
or
so,
there
have
been
growing
concerns
in
Japan
that
migration
trends,
such
as
large
in-migration
to
Tokyo
metropolitan
area
(TMA)
at
national
scale
and
movements
from
suburbs
centres
scale,
widened
core-periphery
disparities
each
under
population
decline.
However,
COVID-19
pandemic
led
unexpected
changes
these
patterns,

weakened
concentration
TMA.

study
aims
examine
internal
trends

centre-suburbs

ABSTRACT
Studies
on
the
impact
of
COVID‐19
ethnic
minorities
are
often
centred
around
racism
and
socio‐economic
inequality.

heritage
