Sustainable logistics aims to balance economic efficiency, environmental responsibility, and social well-being in supply chain operations. This study explores the use of Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS), a metaheuristic optimization method, addressing sustainable challenges provides insights into potential it has support them by delivering efficient solutions that align with global sustainability goals. The review identifies key trends, including significant increase research since 2019, strong focus on routing, scheduling, location problems. Hybrid approaches, combining VNS other methods, multiobjective address trade-offs between goals are prominent. most frequently applied versions closely those commonly used broader literature, reflecting similar adoption proportions. In recent years, noticeable studies incorporating adaptation mechanisms frameworks emerged. trend is largely driven growing influence Artificial Intelligence approaches across numerous fields science engineering, highlighting need for more dynamic intelligent techniques. However, important gaps remain. These include limited consideration uncertainty systems, underrepresentation sustainability, lack standardized benchmarks comparing results. Future work should these explore emerging applications.

The vaccine, a distinctive product with specific characteristics, plays crucial role in enhancing human immunity against diseases for their eradication. Given the severe impact of COVID-19 pandemic on humanity, numerous challenges lie ahead, underscoring necessity to develop and enhance medical, economic, managerial components vaccine development, as well integrate digital technologies coordinate all stakeholders respond effectively epidemic. All these considerations refer need lifecycle management approach. Despite existing literature, many studies focus isolated stages, neglecting essential holistic view required understand interconnections overall proposed solutions whole lifecycle. This study addresses this research gap, by systematically tackling major throughout Our contributes literature (a) providing systematic examination surrounding Vaccine Lifecycle Management, offering insights into issues faced various stages production, distribution, administration, (b) proposing recommendations or directions improvement managing entire vaccines. results could be valuable perspectives decision-makers involved process.

Cold chain logistics networks represent intricate systems that require harmonisation of their influence on the economy, environment, and society. However, simultaneously achieving these goals is hard. This paper defined a comprehensive model aiming to achieve tradeoff related cost efficiency, product quality, delivery timeliness, environmental impacts. Meanwhile, influences ambient temperature, path flexibility, hybrid fleet proposed dual-mode location-routing problem-based cold (DMLRPCCL) are analyzed. A meticulously crafted hyper-heuristic framework employing Q-learning has been developed address complexity chains obtain high-quality solutions. The numerical study shown can analyze various scenarios for perishable products evaluate impact cost, emissions, quality. algorithm efficient effective in competitive results compared three tailored algorithms. Extensive analyses performed empirically assess effect fleet, temperature DMLRPCCL planning. Several managerial insights presented.

Railway Cold Chain Service Network Design (RCC-SND) aims to optimise resource allocation and utilisation ensure the efficient transportation of perishable foods. In this study, we propose a Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINP) model solve hub selection, service frequency determination, wagon flow organisation routing problems in RCC-SND. The application is illustrated using real network comprising 163 cities China. PSO-GA algorithm proven effective solving problem. Furthermore, introduce two future scenarios assess carbon reduction potential economic costs railway cold chain operations. There are some main findings: as number increases from 30 40, total cost decreases, continues rise, offset by increased operational costs. Increasing hubs can enhance direct train while causing capacity redundancy, redundancy be addressed freight volume increase, demonstrated 4.5 times increase boost up 12.5%. By 2030, emissions projected exceed 1.1 million tons, adoption hydrogen alternative energy an economically viable solution for emission reduction.

Purpose Spurred by the high turnover in pharmaceutical industry, locating pharmacies inside urban areas along with product perishability this supply chain management has recently gained increasing attention. Accordingly, paper unveils an inventory-routing problem for designing a perishable products and time-dependent travel time uncertain environment. Design/methodology/approach In study, mathematical programming is employed to formulate multi-graph network affected traffic volume order adapt real-world situations. Likewise, transforming speed function using step-by-step algorithm, first-in-first-out property warranted. Moreover, Box–Jenkins forecasting method diminish demand uncertainty. Findings An appealing result that delivery horizon constraint under-study may eventuate selecting longer path. Our analysis also indicates customers located busy places city are not predominantly visited initial last horizon, which rush times. it concluded integrating disruption management, routing planning inventory studied leads reduction of costs long term. Originality/value Applying heterogeneous fleet vehicles on network, considering reducing costs, multiple trips transfer fleet, impacts components utilizing reduce uncertainty contributions present study.
