This special issue presents six case studies from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Hong Kong, marking one of the first forums dedicated to emerging second generation in Asia. It aims enhance literature on generation, which has predominantly focused North America Western Europe. Rather than adhering assimilation paradigm, this highlights complex, non-linear pathways incorporation ambivalent identity politics faced by second-generation youth We critically examine how children international marriage complicate ethnoscape their respective societies. By emphasizing geopolitical contexts state policies shaping immigrant parents' migration settlement, we explore these macrostructural factors influence children's senses belonging membership. Additionally, analyze distinct manifestations transnationalism Asian contexts, blurring traditional distinction between "sending" "receiving" countries life trajectories generation.

The second generation’s perceptions of South Korea’s public support programs for multicultural families DOI

Much research has critically examined state and public programs targeting marriage immigrants in South Korea. As many of these relate to immigrants' roles as mothers, both governmental non-governmental have been created for the second generation who are born their Korean spouses. Drawing on conceptual framework social justice discourse, this article examines generation's experience with that cater a wide range age groups. Based in-depth interviews second-generation Koreans, study aims understand group's perceptions opportunities provided "multicultural children". Our findings indicate Koreans view beneficial sense redistribution but also they express ambivalence describe "othering". We highlight significance participatory parity materializing politics recognition suggest new policy directions.
