Purpose Conflicts between herders and farmers in Nigeria the last five years have been destructive to corporate existence of Nigerian society State, especially Northcentral, Northwestern Southern Nigeria. The two main theoretical approaches to study the farmer–herder conflicts (FHCs) in Africa, namely, environmental security (ES) and political ecology (PE), demonstrate disagreement. The conflict between farmers and pastoralists in Benue State has been an ongoing issue but become more serious since 2011. In 2017, the Government of decided to intervene by enacting anti-open grazing law confine livestock ranches. Abstract In Nigeria, resource contests have sparked unending ecological conflict. As a result, conflict resolution measures been proposed to mitigate climate‐related However, the acceptance of such policies is hampered by ethnic suspicions, communities' exclusion, religious sensitivities, and lack political will. State are frequently based on centralized resources, which exacerbated complexities power relations between central sub‐national authorities. Thus, this article examines resistance Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) settlement policy in Nigeria's Middlebelt using Benue state as reference point. The study employed quantitative method questionnaires. used sample size 385 questionnaires administered Guma, Gwer‐West, Gwer‐East, Ukum, Logo local governments state. Therefore, found that failure inclusivity substantially contributed revolt against RUGA policy. Specifically, study's findings demonstrate possibility losing ancestral lands, past experience host communities, factors, poor awareness were primary factors reinforced Moreover, government's over‐reliance an authoritarian mechanism wrong choices compounded non‐inclusive approach gain acceptability at grassroots level intervention, recommends democratically inclusive strategies for armed region.
