A
series
of
pyridinium-based
chiral
ionic
liquid
crystals
(ILCs)
and
the
intermediated,
non-ionic
ones
(NILCs),
were
designed
synthesised.
All
ILCs
exhibit
enantiotropic
SmA
phases,
while
all
NILCs
cholesteric
phases.
In
addition,
few
SmC*
Due
to
Coulombic
force,
clearing
points
are
higher
than
those
corresponding
NILCs.
For
ILCs,
lateral
fluoro-substitution
not
only
decreases
points,
but
also
drives
formation
bilayer
molecular
packing
structures
at
smectic
