A series of star-shaped liquid crystal (LC), respectively, based on phloroglucinol, pentaerythritol and glucose as cores, rod-shaped molecules (MeOSBAA, MeSBAA ClSBAA) containing a schiff base mesogenic mesogen were synthesised. The molecular structures confirmed by FT-IR 1H-NMR techniques. Designing and self-assembly of unconventional star-shaped mesogens or 'hekates' are interest to materials science molecular electronics. This work presents the synthesis several symmetric trimeric liquid crystalline compounds comprising 1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene (phloroglucinol) as central core. The behaviour was induced by attaching three rod-like azo-aromatic semi-flexible units core via esteric linkages. Based on differential scanning calorimetry polarising optical microscopy, mesophase stability mainly depends alkyl chain length. showed monotropic enantiotropic behaviour, except compound with nine atoms end which is non-mesomorphic. In addition characterisation, self-assembled structures individual properties have been characterised simulations.

The synthesis and characterization of novel ionic liquid crystals based on pyridinium salts with Br− PF6− counterions are described in this work. These were derived from 4-hydroxypyridine, both by N- O-alkylation. 3,4,5-tri(alkyloxy)-benzyl mesogenic unit was attached to the nitrogen atom ring. Alkyl chains a different number carbon atoms (6, 8, 10, 12 14) employed order show effect stability mesophase. POM (polarizing optical microscopy) XRD (powder X-ray diffraction) studies indicated that bromide shorter C6, C8 C10 do not mesomorphic properties, while longer chain analogues C12 C14 exhibit two enantiotropic columnar phases. Series of oligomeric ionic liquid crystals (OILCs) based on various anions including bromide (Br−), tetrafluoroborate (BF4−), dodecylbenzenesulphonate (A-SO3−) and (+)-10-camphorsulphonate (D-SO3−) are synthesised by use pyridine-containing monomers, terminal bromo-substituted alkanes anion replacement reagents. The effect the chemical structure, liquid-crystalline behaviour, conductivity is investigated. OILCs show mesophases smectic, hexagonal columnar bicontinuous cubic phase due to change in anions. These mesophase types determined two incompatible segments derived from mesogens flexible alkyl chains microstructure. For A-SO3− D-SO3− anions, a curvature interfaces between layers arises increased size one segment, resulting mesophases. investigated way that lithium ion solution passing through oriented OILC films at room temperature. with conductivities measuring system increase little order > BF4−> Br−. values nearly twofold compared those Br- which can be attributed effects both migration channels microstructures.

Abstract Series of ionic liquid crystalline polymers (ILCPs) containing bipyridinium groups were synthesized by self‐assembly technology, and the chemical structure, behavior, property, antistatic property investigated various techniques.
