Abstract Feelings and questions of belonging are central to daily life. Highlighting this centrality, research theory in higher education have offered robust definitions frameworks for understanding what it means belong, how shapes meaningful life outcomes, foster it. This chapter offers an interdisciplinary structure putting these perspectives conversation. To do this, I first briefly review weave discussion about some common on belonging. Belonging is a complex relational concept. It has been shown to be processual, emergent, and dynamic. And yet this relationality, complexity, sits in tension with increasingly voluble calls measure, manage maintain students' sense of belonging an ostensibly fixed space higher education. This article reports on research that invited students not only define how they experience belonging, but also surface belonging's relationality: it entangled material spaces artefacts enacted through evolving behaviours communities. While young people's alcohol consumption has fallen sharply in the United Kingdom and other high-income countries, universities remain places where heavy drinking is routine normative. Drawing on interviews with undergraduate students, this article explores how part of students negotiate a sense belonging form personal relationships.
