This study examined Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), and Zinc (Zn) levels in Limnothrissa miodon fish from Lake Kariba Zambia their potential impact on human health. Two-gram samples each stratum underwent a 12-hour digestion, concentrations were determined using Microwave Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer. Results indicated that Cu, Fe, Zn fell within Food Agricultural Organization World Health safety limits. Estimated Daily Intake (EDI) Hazard Quotient (THQ) values for males females remained under recommended thresholds, suggesting minimal health risks consumption. Element followed the order Fe > all below Recommended Allowances (RDAs). THQ values, with posing highest risk by one. Overall, Index (HI) was 0.02, signifying low non-carcinogenic Despite safety, ongoing monitoring of heavy metal accumulation ecosystem is advisable long-term safety. In conclusion, trace element are safe consumption associated risks. Nonetheless, continued vital.

The global market for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is growing exponentially, resulting in an increase mining activities the metals needed manufacturing LIBs. Cobalt, lithium, manganese, and nickel are four of most used construction LIBs, each has known toxicological risks associated with exposure. Mining these poses potential human health via occupational environmental exposures; however, there a paucity data surrounding increasing activity. objective this review was to characterize risks. We conducted literature systematic search PubMed database on effects cobalt, nickel. included articles that (1) reported original research, (2) outcomes directly related health, (3) assessed exposure or nickel, (4) had available English translation. excluded all other articles. Our identified 183 relevant Toxicological hazards were 110 studies. Exposure cobalt respiratory toxicity, while manganese neurologic toxicity. Notably, no lithium toxicity Traumatic six Three infectious disease hazards, studies mental health. Several increased children compared adults. results suggest LIBs presents significant result both acute chronic toxicities. Further research better risks, particularly regarding mining.

The effects of trophic cascades have made small-size pelagic fish species, such as Engraulicypris sardella, from Lake Malawi an important ecological and food system. However, human-induced activities can potentially pollute exposing E. sardella to heavy metals contamination. This could pose a system health risk the population Malawians neighboring countries, which heavily rely on source animal protein. Therefore, this study investigated concentration levels Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu), Manganese (Mn), Iron (Fe) in sun-dried conducted assessment associated with its consumption. samples were collected Karonga, Nkhata Bay, Nkhotakota, Salima, Mangochi districts between December 2023 February 2024. results revealed significant variations Cd, Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe concentrations among sampled sites while Pb contamination was not detected. within acceptable consumption limits set by Food Agriculture Organization (FAO) World Health (WHO) 2012. fish's average Cd (0.17 mg kg−1 ww) slightly above recommended threshold 0.1 ww FAO/WHO (2012) but remained below limit 0.5 FAO 1983. Furthermore, none analyzed posed effect people. there is need for regular monitoring metal other mostly consumed species Malawi, both fresh processed, sustained guarantee safety consumers.

Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) were grown in a biofloc rearing systems with (control treatment) or without sugarcane bagasse (SB treatment), 3 replicate per treatment. SB, is an economic carbohydrate source. Parameters monitored water-quality, growth indices, digestive enzymes activity, and microbial dynamics. Messenger RNA levels of immune-related, growth-related, antioxidant genes hepatopancreas muscle gene's single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) also considered. The outdoor ponds (44.5 m3), each stocked 600 L. vannamei larvae initial weight 0.024 g) to start three-month experiment. development was two aerated active suspension tanks which SB (about 700 g/day, adjusted every weeks) added maintain the C/N at 16. water quality parameters, enzyme growth, survival (P ≤ 0.05) group improved compared control. increased total heterotrophic microbiota mRNA immune- related (lipopolysaccharides/b-glucan- binding protein, β-glucan-binding lysozyme, prophenoloxidase, crustin, transglutaminase, hemocyanin) (superoxide dismutase glutathione peroxidase) significantly control highest all growth- such as insulin- like factors (I II), hormone, myosin, paramyosin. Eight SNPs detected hemocyanin gene, adenine insertion (ins A-554) recorded high body weight. Our findings implied that using carbon source system artificial feeding, could improve quality, enzymes, dynamics immune-, vannamei.
