Libya in transition: governance challenges and civil society’s prospects in political and economic reforms

This
article
examines
Libya's
complex
landscape,
marked
by
a
persistently
weak
state
apparatus
since
the
Gaddafi
era,
which
continues
to
raise
significant
concerns.
Following
2011
revolution,
Libya
has
remained
battleground
of
conflict
and
war.
study
investigates
factors
influencing
transition,
with
particular
focus
on
role
civil
society
in
governance
political
economic
reforms.
The
research
draws
two
qualitative
studies
that
complement
researcher's
expertise

While
refugees
from
sub-Saharan
Africa
encounter

difficulties

they
flee
their
home

ethnographic

The
Mediterranean
Sea
has
always
represented
a
unique
melting
pot
of
cultures
and
peoples,
holding
strategic
position:
since
the
mid-1990s
it
been
preferred
route
for
migrants
to
reach
European
continent.
Adverse
weather
conditions
overcrowded
illegal
routes,
as
well
difficult
management
emergency
by
EU,
make
one
most
dangerous
with
reports
migrant
accidents
being
an
everyday
occurrence.
Since
2014,
approximately
29.000
have
gone
missing
or
died
in
Mediterranean,
highest
number
fatalities
recorded
2016
central
(UNHCR,
2022).
