Abstract This article builds on conversations about the nature of a pedagogy specifically for babies, which are defined in this paper as 0–2 year olds. To do this, we explore articulations social purpose and among 15 baby room educators working UK nurseries. Our findings suggest four types that inform what do, how they it why it. The our study articulated their terms providing secure foundation childhood adulthood; acting support system parents; enabling healthy early development; inspiring learning across lifespan. Correspondingly, identified giving care nurture to meet physical emotional needs; cultivating parent partnerships; planning activities, interactions resources around developmental goals; creating provocations stimulate based individual interests. We hope typology helps deepen understanding experience pedagogies enact day day, well reflective tool use practice.
