Purpose Digitalization presents both opportunities and challenges for collaborative innovation within supply chains (SCs). Based on resource dependence theory (RDT), this study examines the underlying mechanisms of digitalization performance, elucidating mediation moderating role interfirm IT integration relational norms in above relationships. Design/methodology/approach Hierarchical regression analysis is used to test model from 170 buyer–supplier dyads China. Findings This study’s empirical findings demonstrate that has an inverted U-shaped relationship with performance relationships (BSRs), partially mediates relationship. Specifically, integration, positively affects performance. Finally, moderate relationship, making it steeper. Originality/value embeds impact SC By using dyad as unit, reveals brings benefits risks BSRs. Furthermore, by clarifying norms, uncovers mediating boundary conditions thereby enriching understanding digitalization.
