Abstract Biogenic sedimentary structures offer a unique perspective for understanding the role of biosphere in interaction with other Earth subsystems and building up our planet. The record their ancient equivalents provides wealth information reconstructing bioturbators as ecosystem engineers using multiple ichnological proxies methods. In this study, we present an overview how bioturbation has worked across broad range spatial temporal scales from engineering. Comprehensive systematic datasets allow analyses at regional global extents, especially over long where sampling intensity rock biases can be considered. Our results underscore significance Cambrian Explosion establishment modern‐style shallow marine ecosystems Ordovician Radiation deep counterparts, well continuous impact during Palaeozoic terrestrialization. Comparable rest Phanerozoic have not yet been compiled. However, preliminary indicates that colonization ultra‐deep tiers, rise to prominence regenerators, increased burrowing efficiency, compartmentalization endobenthic ecospace, were products Mesozoic Marine Revolution. trace‐fossil offers hard data evaluate driving force re‐structuring key factor geobiological cycles. Models assessing these fundamental issues should rooted empirically different scales, both autoecological synecological macroecological, making best possible use rich rapidly developing toolbox.
