Understanding determinants of information avoidance when using mobile social apps: A perspective of social comparison

The
current
research
investigates
the
determinants
of
information
avoidance
in
use
mobile
social
applications
(apps)
from
a
comparison
perspective.
It
specifically
examines
how
cognitive
dissonance,
emotional
exhaustion,
and
gender
differences
shape
process,
ultimately
leading
to
avoidance.
An
online
survey
with
458
app
users
was
conducted
collect
data.
Structural
equation
modeling
partial
least
squares
(PLS-SEM)
employed
empirically
test
our
proposed
model.
findings
indicate
that
serves
as
significant
source
dissonance
which
turn
lead
within
apps.
Furthermore,
positively
moderate
relationship
between
effect

for
women
than
men.

This
study

news

behaviors

Egypt’s
media

how

overload,

In
the
digital
age,
human-algorithm
interaction
has
become
ubiquitous.
The
popularity
of
short-form
video
apps
led
to
greater
access
and
experience
with
algorithmic
recommender
systems,
but
it
also
exposed
their
potential
problems
dark
sides.
However,
there
is
still
limited
knowledge
about
side
over-recommendation
from
perspective
user
perception,
especially
regarding
negative
impact
on
users'
psychology
behavior.
Drawing
social
cognitive
theory,
this
study
constructed
a
theoretical
model
investigate
how
information
environment
factors
influence
dissonance
discontinuance
intention
under
antecedent
dimension
perceived
over-recommendation.
was
tested
using
partial
least
squares
structural
equation
modeling
322
valid
questionnaires
users

showed
that
when
over-recommendation,
narrowing,
redundancy,
overload,
privacy
invasion

increased
dissonance,
