Feeding and eating disorders (FEDs) are a heterogeneous grouping of at the mind-body interface, with typical onset from childhood into emerging adulthood. They occur along spectrum disordered compensatory weight management behaviors, low to high body weight. Psychiatric comorbidities norm. In contrast other major psychiatric disorders, first-line treatments for FEDs mainly psychological and/or nutrition-focused, medications playing minor adjunctive role. Patients, carers clinicians all have identified personalization treatment as priority. Yet, FEDs, evidence base supporting this is limited. Importantly, related behaviors can serious physical consequences may put patient's life risk. these cases, immediate safety risk considerations least period need be prioritized over efforts care. This paper systematically reviews several key domains that relevant characterization individual patient FED aimed management. These include symptom profile, clinical subtypes, severity, staging, complications consequences, antecedent concomitant conditions, social functioning quality life, neurocognition, cognition emotion, dysfunctional cognitive schemata, personality traits, family history, early environmental exposures, recent stigma, protective factors. Epidemiologic research has identified numerous interpersonal and individual risk factors for warning signs of emerging eating disorders in adolescents. These findings have informed public health prevention treatment strategies, including translation to clinical recommendations primary care providers (PCPs). A next step this translational work could include a comprehensive approach where PCPs are seen as partners efforts improve population outcomes. great potential implement high-yield interventions that prevent or attenuate the course adolescent disorders. To illustrate potential, we present case highlights missed opportunities PCP prevent, detect, intervene during patient's developing disorder. Prior work has documented inequities in disordered eating behavior (DEB) prevalence across gender identity, race, and ethnicity, yet often ignored the fact that individuals belong to multiple social groups simultaneously. The present study assessed DEB at intersection of identity race/ethnicity. sample included n = 10,287 adolescents (68% gender-diverse, 33% belonging marginalized racial/ethnic groups). Past-year dietary restriction, self-induced vomiting, diet pill use, binge was assessed. Data were analyzed with multilevel analysis individual heterogeneity discriminatory accuracy (MAIHDA). MAIHDA nests within strata defined by all combinations race/ethnicity (a proxy for exposure structural (cis)sexism racism). allows comparison outcome identifies disproportionately high or low prevalence. Hispanic gender-nonconforming youth had a DEBs: restricting 67.1% (95% CI [62.1%-72.2%]), vomiting 25.9% [21.6%-31.0%]), 46.0% [40.2%-51.4%]). Abstract Background Historically, eating disorder (ED) research has largely focused on White girls and women, with minority ethnic populations underrepresented. Most exploring EDs in been conducted the United States (US). The aim of this scoping review, first its kind, was to systematically examine disordered among Australia, Canada, Aotearoa New Zealand Kingdom (UK), four countries shared sociocultural healthcare characteristics. An inequity lens applied highlight gaps research, access, treatment experiences. Method Five databases (Medline, Embase, PsycINFO, CINHAL Web Science) were searched up March 7, 2024. Two independent reviewers screened titles abstracts full texts against eligibility criteria resulting inclusion 87 records (76 peer-reviewed articles 11 theses). Included studies charted according their focus, study design, sample characteristics findings, a particular focus placed prevalence, access experience. Results majority identified UK (61%, 53 studies). There notable lack investigating assessment, diagnosis intervention. Prevention of eating disorders: 2024 in review DOI

This review of 20 prevention-related publications in Eating Disorders during 2024 is framed by three models: (1) Mental Health Intervention Spectrum: health promotion ➔ types prevention case identification/referral for treatment; (2) the cycle: rationale and theory, shaped critical reviews clarifying risk protective factors program innovation feasibility studies efficacy effectiveness research dissemination; (3) definitions links between eating disorder psychopathology, disordered behavior, disorders. Nine articles were category (including screening studies) gaps/shortcomings field; addressed correlates putative pathology; eight involved creation, adaptation, or upscaling programs: pilot projects, one study, four investigations effectiveness. Seven implications improvement are presented. ABSTRACT Objective Since its publication almost 35 years ago, the Eating Disorder Examination (EDE) and companion paper‐and‐pencil self‐report—the Examination‐Questionnaire (EDE‐Q)—have remained some of most widely used studied tools for assessment eating disorder symptoms.
