Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have significantly attracted the attention of institutional investors over last decade. However, previous literature has not deeply explored characteristics venture capital (VC) investments in AI ventures. In this study, we explore whether and to what extent ventures differ from those similar non-AI ventures, they are moderated by venture-level, country-level, investor-level factors. We test our hypotheses on a sample 5235 2689 9215 4373 belonging Industry 4.0 domain, observed 2000 2019. find that amount invested is lower than ones: negative relationship is, however, venture’s development stage, VC investor’s experience level country which operates.
