For many young women, their relationships with fitness, health and the body are shaped by unrealistic beauty ideals. Body image scholars have long focused on impacts of media more recently, social media, way women experience satisfaction. This research investigates lived experiences in Aotearoa New Zealand, relation to trend ‘glow up’ as it connects transformation, practices fitness culture. article draws upon a thematic analysis focus groups 15 (18–25 years) living Zealand. Engaging feminist writings ‘body project’, including those drawing postfeminism affect theories, our reveals how up imperative’ powerfully combines positivity’ discourses transformational trends (i.e., ‘fitspo’ ‘makeover’) highly affective ways, prompting feel guilt or shame (‘ugly feelings’) when they unable achieve maintain time, financial energetic investments required for, successful up’.
