years
the
historical
subject
base
in
psychobiography
has
expanded
from
a
traditional
focus
on
White
(Caucasian)
subjects
to
broader
more
culturally
inclusive
population
of
significant
personalities
throughout
history.
A
critical
component

multicultural
is
inclusion

theories
psychology
that
are
rooted
socio-cultural-political
context.
To
psychologically
profile
diverse
individuals
with
only
Western
and
psychiatry
(e.g.
medical
models,

Abstract
This
book
explains
what
makes
for
effective,
accurate,
compelling
psychobiography.
Psychobiography
refers
to
the
study,
using
psychological
perspectives,
of
lives
notable
figures
in
history,
politics,
intellectual
life,
arts,
and
other
fields.
The
essence
psychobiography
is
gaining
access
inner
world
subjects:
Why
did
they
act
as
did?
What
are
their
motivations,
strivings,
preoccupations?
Research
basis
Materials
such
letters,
diaries,
dreams,
Freudian
slips,
fantasies
especially
revealing
therefore
useful
analysis.
Authors
psychobiographies
inevitably
have
a
relationship
with
subjects;
must
be
able
gain
insight
through
this
without
being
thrown
off
by
either
idealizing
or
denigrating
subjects.
It
essential
take
into
account
subject’s
culture:
if
an
author
today
writes
about
person
who
lived
years
ago,
that
person’s
culture
was
significantly
different
from
author’s.
Foisting
theory
onto
subject
fatal
mistake.
Instead,
should
open
up,
not

down;
