Cross-sex relationships between a man and woman have their own appeal as theme explored by researchers in creative texts such song lyrics. Abstract Grounded on the psychology of language and corpus discourse analysis, this article explores linguistic patterns in Amy Winehouse’s original compositions (2003–2011) her tendency to commit self-harm. Voyant Tools (Sinclair & Rockwell 2016), a web-based application, was utilised generate keywords context, collocates graph, visualise word trends across corpus; sentiment analysis also conducted determine if emotional tone message (text) is positive, neutral, or negative sentiment. The findings showed an upward trend frequencies contexts; lexicogrammatical phrases conveyed self-deprecating attitude ( I’m nothing, no good ) self-destructive intentions dying, hurt, losing) , impact male figures life associating man with war fighting . Changes syntax structures revealed contextual clues low self-esteem, emotions, loneliness. Self-disclosure pain associated tears, response infidelity alluded toxic relationships that triggered behaviour. overall text expressed 0.70. This argues lexical choices semantic shifts are devices Winehouse used express views love loss, awareness thoughts feelings, sense agency (re-)assess men around her, identity as rebellious headstrong woman who chose own path which eventually had been detrimental.

Since the emergence of Hiplife as a musical genre in Ghana, it has enjoyed some scholarly attention, focusing primarily on issues pertaining to its evolution blend Hip hop and Ghanaian Highlife genres, well how employs linguistic resources involving code-switching proverbs comment social issues.
