Pulmonary embolism (PE) represents one of the main causes acute respiratory failure in geriatric patients. In older population, critical issues PE management are multiple: reduced specificity clinical signs and symptoms (with common to other pathologies, such as chest pain, dyspnea, tachypnea), frequent late diagnosis (delay or misdiagnosis), difficulty diagnostic algorithm, need for a rapid prognostic assessment, consequent timely treatment. Optimal is patient-centered, includes all treatment options available, aims at optimizing outcomes short, medium, long term with multidisciplinary approach.
