Abstract Psychosocial research on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ+) populations from Latin America is relatively recent. Initially, focused mainly prejudice, using qualitative techniques. Studies LGBTIQ+ populations, more sophisticated psychosocial theories such as those of Herek or Meyer, began in the mid‐1990s. This study deals with surveys scales based non‐probabilistic samples, being first studied. In early 2000s, and/or were introduced, has been much interdisciplinary. paper describes theoretical frameworks used examines distinctions findings Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Brazil. Future must involve cross‐cultural studies, systematic scoping reviews, studies non‐binary populations. Finally, conditions for reimaging are discussed.
