F. nucleatum binds penetrates epithelial cells through adhesins such FadA, impairing cell junctions encouraging epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which is associated with advancement. Additionally, modulates host immune system, suppressing activity conditions favorable for tumor growth. Its interactions gut microbiome contribute dysbiosis, further influencing carcinogenic pathways.
