Moral
injury
is
the
persistent
mental
or
emotional
distress
resulting
from
events
that
challenge
one's
moral
beliefs.
It
characterised
by
intense
shame,
guilt,
worthlessness,
disgust
anger
and
can
contribute
towards
development
of
serious
disorders.
The
nature
working
in
prisons
means
staff
often
face
physically
psychologically
challenging
scenarios,
prison
report
high
rates
ill-health
suicidal
thoughts.
Equally,
detainees
may
be
especially
vulnerable
to
injury-related
health
difficulties
having
engaged
illicit
actions
been
found
guilty
a
jury
their
peers
as
well
as,
profile
cases,
court
public
opinion.
Despite
this,
there
an
evidence
gap
about
extent
both
detainee
populations,
how
staff/detainees
better
supported.
How
struggling
with
linked
reoffending
amongst
burnout
resignations
currently
unknown.
In
resource
strapped
settings,
emerging
treatments
for
are
unlikely
appropriate
feasible.
this
article,
we
highlight
contexts
which
arise;
unique
challenges
treatment
support
settings;
offer
targeted
recommendations
future
research
clinical
practice.

Background
Exposure
to
potentially
morally
injurious
events
is
increasingly
recognised
as
a
concern
across
range
of
occupational
groups,
including
UK
military
veterans.
Moral
injury-related
mental
health
difficulties
can
be
challenging
for
clinicians
treat
and
there
currently
no
validated
treatment
available
We
developed
Restore
Rebuild
(R&R)
veterans
struggling
with
moral
difficulties.
This
trial
aims
examine
whether
it
feasible
conduct
pilot
randomised
controlled
(RCT)
R&R
compared
treatment-as-usual
(TAU)
control
group.
Methods
will
use
feasibility
single-blind,
single-site
RCT
design.
The
target
population
recruit
N=46
veteran
patients
who
randomly
allocated
(n=23)
or
TAU
(n=23).
Patients
receive
the
20-session
one-to-one
treatment,
delivered
online.
Veterans
TAU,
are
manualised
treatments
problems
available,
(online)
typically
provided

service
