Public safety personnel (PSP), such as police officers, firefighters, correctional workers, and paramedics, routinely face work stressors that increase their risk of developing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PSP may additionally moral transgressions in the workplace (e.g., witnessing human suffering, working within broken systems), heightening injury (MI) this population. Research among military health care workers shows an association between MI PTSD; however, less is known about these constructs PSP. Canadian completed online survey June 2022 2023, including a demographic questionnaire measures PTSD, MI, dissociation, depression, anxiety, stress, childhood adversity. Latent variable structural equation modeling (SEM) was performed to ascertain impact latent construct (i.e., shame, trust violation, functional impairment) on PTSD intrusions, avoidance, negative alterations cognition mood, hyperreactivity, depersonalization, derealization). Sex, age, adversity were included covariates. A total 314 data analysis. SEM regressing onto covariates accounted for 83.7% variance PTSD. strongest predictor compared all significantly associated with symptoms, β = .506, p < .001, above beyond impacts sex, These findings are consistent research members providers highlight importance further exploring

Background: Staffing shortages across the healthcare sector pose a threat to continuity of Canadian system in post-COVID-19 pandemic era. We sought understand factors associated with turnover intention as well providers’ (HCPs) perspectives and experiences related both organizational professional turnover. Method: A convergent questionnaire mixed-methods design was employed. Descriptive statistics ordinal logistic regressions were used analyze quantitative data ascertain intention. Thematic analysis qualitative open-field textbox HCPs’ Results: Quantitative analyses revealed that 78.6% HCPs surveyed (N = 398) reported at least 25% likelihood regarding their organization, 67.5% reporting profession. Whereas regression models significant impact years worked, burnout, support on for organizations, age, sex, contributed leaving Patterns meaning drawn from participants’ responses organized according following four themes: (1) Content stay, (2) Drowning no one cares, (3) Moral stressors, (4) Wrestling costs benefits. Conclusions: Many described weighing benefits organization or profession during COVID-19 pandemic. Although challenging working conditions, moral burnout may play role intention, there is ample room intervene support.

Moral distress among healthcare workers (HCWs) has dramatically increased during Covid-19 emergency however most evidence relies on cross-sectional data collected early stages. This longitudinal cohort study aims to provide a better insight into the occurrence and associations of moral distress, focusing both its short long-term impact HCWs' mental health. A total 990 completed health evaluation between July 2020-July 2021 (Time 1) reporting frequencies psychological (GHQ-12), post-traumatic (IES-R) anxiety (GAD-7) symptoms; after one year (July 2021-July 2022; Time 2), 310 participants repeated evaluation. We investigated differences considering socio-demographic occupational characteristics. Two logistic regression models examined potential role as risk factor for scorings above scales' cut-offs at 1 2. Frequent episodes were mostly reported by nurses (24 %), physicians (22 younger (<40y; 23 %) engaged in area; HCWs from Emergency/Intensive Care Departments highest (29 %). Results showed increases all symptoms became more frequent. experienced resulted persistent impairment following year, with stable ORs (Time1 OR=7.8, 95 %CI=(5.3,11.6) Time2 OR=6.6, %CI=(2.9,15.7). Our findings support consequences distress; preventive strategies may be addressed priority nurses/physicians Emergency Intensive Departments.
