The assessment of cardiac autonomic regulation (CAR) with non-invasive techniques, such as heart rate variability (HRV), might be practical interest in elite sports, considering its importance determining training. We studied 117 soccer players (74 male and 43 female) from three First Division European teams. used a ranked Autonomic Nervous System Index (ANSI, resulting the combination multivariate statistical methodologies applied to HRV-derived indices) assess CAR. hypothesized that ANSI differentiate playing positions, goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, forwards. also assessed perception somatic symptoms stress. observed athletes was significantly greater males compared females (p < 0.001), being higher midfielders defenders = 0.035), who usually sustain greatest external load. Interestingly, this result not female athletes, who, instead, reported 0.018) stress 0.049), latter particularly high forwards 0.045). This approach represent convenient model study effects long-term physical exercise on CAR soccer, even unveil possible differences due sex, different positions characterized by distinct routines, or perception.
