The aging of micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) significantly affects their environmental behavior ecological impacts in both aquatic terrestrial ecosystems. This review explored the known effects on MNPs identified several key perspectives. Firstly, can alter fate transport due to changes surface properties. alteration accelerates accumulation specific habitats like oceans soils, resulting increased bioaccumulation by organisms. In addition, aged interact differently with living organisms than pristine counterparts influencing attachment biofilms other microorganisms Moreover, processes exhibit adverse via increasing bioavailability potential toxicity as degradation products are released. Last but not least, biodegradation be altered process, thus affecting rates pathways environment. However, there still knowledge gaps regarding natural behaviors MNPs, such mechanisms different types plastic, influence factors, release pollutants, even transformation Therefore, a great contribution made sustainable plastic use preservation studying common subsequent biological effects.

Microplastics (MPs) are emerging pollutants in aquatic systems, but their presence groundwater, particularly thermal waters, is understudied. This study investigates the prevalence and characteristics of MPs waters Kütahya, Turkey, marking first such exploration country globally groundwater systems. Twenty-one samples (3 L each) were collected across nine regions filtered using GF/C filters (0.45-µm pore size). Microscopic examination μ-Raman spectroscopy revealed an average MP concentration 0.85 ± 0.71 MPs/L (850 MPs/m3), with highest at ST-8 (4.88 2.98 MPs/L). Fibers (50%), fragments (39.8%), films (10.2%) identified, polyethylene (22.2%) being most common polymer type. Variability abundance stations suggests multiple contamination sources, including agricultural runoff, anthropogenic activities, material used water transport infrastructure. The findings indicate low-level which could influence both ecological health human activities relying on these as tourism greenhouse irrigation. pioneering highlights necessity for integrated waste management policies to mitigate pollution underscores role understanding dynamics

With the extensive utilization of plastic products, microplastics/nanoplastics (MPs/NPs) contamination not only poses a global hazard to environment, but also induces new threat growth development and nutritional quality plantation agricultural products. This study thoroughly examines behavior MPs/NPs, including their sources, entry routes into plants, phytotoxicity under various biotic abiotic stresses (e.g., salinity, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, heavy metals, antibiotics, plasticizers, nano oxide, naturally occurring organic macromolecular compounds, invasive Botrytis cinerea mycorrhizal fungi.) controlling strategies. MPs/NPs in systems mainly originate from mulch, sewage, compost fertilizer, municipal solid waste, pesticide packaging materials, etc. They enter plants through endocytosis, apoplast pathways, crack-entry modes, leaf stomata, affecting phenotypic, metabolic, enzymatic, genetic processes such as seed germination, metabolism, photosynthesis, oxidative stress antioxidant defenses, fruit yield nutrient quality, cytotoxicity genotoxicity. can interact with other environmental stressors, resulting synergistic, antagonistic, or neutral effects on phytotoxicity. To address these challenges, this review highlights strategies mitigate toxicity, novel green biodegradable plastics, plant extraction immobilization, exogenous regulator interventions, porous nanomaterial modulation, biocatalysis enzymatic degradation. Finally, identifies current limitations future research directions critical field.
