Abstract We report that the spin vector of photoelectrons emitted from an atomic layer Pb grown on a germanium substrate [Pb/Ge(111)] can be controlled using electric field light. The polarization excited by linearly polarized light is precisely investigated spin- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. observed in mirror plane reverses between p- s-polarized lights. Considering dipole transition selection rule, surface state Pb/Ge(111) represented linear combination symmetric asymmetric orbital components coupled with spins mutually opposite directions. direction different initial when deviates or s-polarization conditions. quantum interference photoexcitation process determine photoelectrons.
