This paper shows that climate-related forced displacement is insufficiently addressed in two fundamental commitments made towards the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) between 2015 and 2023: National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). It describes important role NAPs NDCs play prioritising tackling of certain aspects climate change adaptation, identifies gaps displacement, proposes ways adding it among their policy objectives, mobilising finance to reach them.

Abstract Disruptive events and calamities can have major consequences for households in the predominantly agrarian communities of Eastern Africa. Here, we analyze impacts environmental non-environmental shocks on migration Tanzania using panel models longitudinal data from National Panel Survey between 2008 2013. Shocks are defined as that lead to losses income, assets, or both. We find resulting changes conditions be positively related over time with more recent exerting strongest impact. According our estimates, probability having a household member absent increases by 0.81% each additional shock encountered past 12 months. Different types differential effects being observed an immediate impact livelihoods, including through livestock crop damage. Households sample differently affected rural, agriculturally dependent, poor without alternative income sources showing their behavior response shocks. Our study adds important insights into relationship disruptive Africa considering broad window compounding influence different types. findings range policy implications highlighting need comprehensive perspective responses times distress considers interplay well role context shaping mobility patterns.

Abstract From 1930 to 1939, a devastating drought affected the USA. To study environmentally induced migration, I develop datasets of environmental conditions (drought, heat, and precipitation) census data between 1940. My analysis shows that people moved from during early late 1930s. County-level environmental-related depopulation resulted increased out-migration decreased in-migration. At individual level, all occupational categories (farm labor, farmers, general skilled white collar) severe conditions, though response varied depending on rural status. Individuals near cities, but not in cities themselves, were typically most mobile shocks. While impacted migration across much Western USA, Great Plains states witnessed dramatic population declines. findings provide detailed view forces driving 1930s demonstrate responsiveness labor sectors, highlight where left due conditions.

Rural communities in Ghana, dependent on agriculture and lacking resources infrastructure, are highly vulnerable to climate environmental change. Internal migration is often considered as a strategy mitigate local livelihood constraints. Understanding the challenges of rural requires knowledge conditions. As only few studies have mapped areas context Ghana at spatially explicit nationwide level, this study provides geodata-based examination how multiple, co-occurring socio-economic factors influencing migration. A multifactorial expert-based weighted overlay analysis was applied, integrating diverse data sources including climate, remote sensing, recent census from Ghana. Bivariate maps visualize where high impact coincides with population density. High levels factor observed northern regions coastal Relatively low found more central parts country. The results align current net rates, confirming applicability our method for assessing internal This enhances understanding dynamics emphasizes role spatial studies.
