Background: Medical cannabis (MC) use is increasing across the USA, with functional MC programs now operating in 38 states. While program policies and practices vary widely, little known about whether how states evaluate their programs. Better characterization of state evaluation to date could inform states, officials, providers best provide a roadmap for future evaluation. Summary: We conducted narrative review evaluations, including peer-reviewed literature reports produced by independent state-based non-state-based evaluators. Among 304 abstracts initially screened, seven evaluations met inclusion criteria. Within these we report results according three overarching themes: (1) characteristics, comparison evaluations; (2) experience, perceptions patients; (3) assessment use, self-reported efficacy qualifying medical conditions, patterns nonmedical risk factors relevant use. Additionally, found that while goals methods varied relied on independent, non-state entities tended have more comprehensive quantitatively rigorous results. Key Messages: Few completed formal program. an evaluation, approaches widely; however, common themes were also present, which may efforts. Background: Tobacco use disorder (TUD) adversely impacts older patients with established cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. However, CVD risk in chronic habitual cannabis users without the confounding impact of TUD hasn’t been explored. We aimed to determine major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) non-tobacco smokers vs. (CUD). Methods: queried 2019 National Inpatient Sample for hospitalized traditional factors aged ≥65 years. Relevant ICD-10 codes were used identify CUD. Using multivariable logistic regression, we evaluated odds MACCE CUD cohorts compared non-CUD cohorts. Results: Prevalence sample was 0.3% (28,535/10,708,815, median age 69), predominantly male, black, non-electively admitted from urban teaching hospitals. Of CUD, 13.9% reported MACCE. The cohort higher (OR 1.20, 95% CI 1.11–1.29, p < 0.001) cohort. Comorbidities such as hypertension 1.9) hyperlipidemia 1.3) predicted a also had unadjusted rates acute myocardial infarction (7.6% 6%) stroke (5.2% 4.8%). Conclusions: Among non tobacco known risk, 20% likelihood those who did not cannabis.

Abstract Introduction Alcohol and substance use are increasing in older adults, many of whom have depression, treatment this context may be more hazardous. We assessed alcohol other patterns adults with treatment‐resistant depression (TRD). examined patient characteristics associated higher consumption the moderating effect on association between clinical variables falls during antidepressant treatment. Methods This secondary exploratory analysis used baseline data from a large randomized trial TRD (the OPTIMUM trial). Multivariable ordinal logistic regression was to identify use. An interaction model evaluate Results Of 687 participants, 51% acknowledged using alcohol: 10% were hazardous drinkers (AUDIT‐10 score ≥5) 41% low‐risk (score 1–4). Benzodiazepine seen 24% all participants 21% drinkers. Use substances (mostly cannabis) consumption: it 5%, 9%, 15% abstainers, drinkers, respectively. Unexpectedly, predicted increased risk only abstainers. Conclusions One‐half study alcohol. concurrent benzodiazepine common. Risks—such as falls—of needs further study.

Background Co-use of cannabis and alcohol is an emerging trend that can exacerbate injury outcomes. While research has focused on younger age groups, there a need to examine consequences associated with co-use among adults populations. Falls represent leading cause older adults. Coupled substance use, injuries falls may be more severe.

ABSTRACT With increased legalization of recreational and medical cannabis, use this drug is growing rapidly among older adults. As cannabis can impair cognition in young adults, it critically important to understand how consumption interacts with the cognitive profile aged individuals, who are already at risk decline. The current study was designed determine influences multiple forms adult rats both sexes when delivered via two translationally-relevant routes administration. Acute exposure smoke enhanced prefrontal cortex-dependent working memory accuracy males, but impaired females, while having no effects adults either sex. In contrast, same regimen had minimal on a hippocampus-dependent trial-unique non-matching location mnemonic task, irrespective age or second set experiments, chronic oral Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9THC) sexes, Δ9THC did not affect spatial learning group. Minimal differences were observed pharmacokinetics route Together, these results show that attenuate impairments emerge aging. While enhancing do extend cognition, does appear exacerbate age-associated domain.
