Genetic and telomeric variability: Insights from a tropical avian hybrid zone

Abstract
Telomere
lengths
and
telomere
dynamics
can
correlate
with
lifespan,
behaviour

ABSTRACT
Aim
The
impact
of
Pleistocene
climate
fluctuations
on
the
biogeographical
history
aquatic
species
has
been
a
topic
enduring
debate.
This
issue
poses
particular
challenges
for
parapatric
closely
related
species,
especially
those
situated
in
transition
zones
where
assemblages
occur
between
distinct
zoogeographic
boundaries.
Location
Eastern
China.

Methods
These
distributed

eastern

model

challenges.

explored
biogeographic
by
conducting
comparative
phylogeographic
analysis
using
nine
microsatellite
loci
two
mitochondrial
DNA
sequences,
combined
with
morphological
variation
fine‐tuned
ecological
niche
modelling.

consistently
revealed
well‐supported
clades:

A,

includes

polyphyletic
patterning

Nanyang
Basin

mountains
regions
(NBSM)

identified
as
critical
shared
refuge
hybrid
zone,
facilitating
interspecific
introgression
through
at
least
putative
hybridisation
events.
During
Late
glacial
cycles,
introgressive
occurred
NBSM,
followed
rapid
expansion
colonisation
heterogenous
habitats
during
interglacial
dispersal
corridors
largely
aligning
local
river
system.
In
particular,
diffusion
corridor
significantly
disrupted
continuous
distribution
indicating
that
replaced
NYSM
caused
disruption
its
distribution.
