Drawn Together: Merging the Worlds of Health and Comics Through Graphic Medicine

Although
storytelling
with
sequential
visual
art
has
been
a
part
of
human
narrative
communication
for
centuries,
interest
in
the
intersection
between
comic
medium
and
health
care
grown
rapidly
recent
years.
Comics
have
an
array
unique
properties
as
means
communication,
this
expanding
field
study,
termed
"graphic
medicine,"
aims
to
better
understand
employ
these
traits
diverse
purposes
care.
Current
applications
comics
medicine
include
education
clinicians
patients,
processing
traumatic
or
transformational
experiences
health,
raising
public
awareness.
Limitations
persist
surrounding
acceptance
comics,
educational
impact
measurement,
logistical
barriers
producing
content
education,
but
future
holds
significant
potential
ongoing
benefits
clinicians,
academics.
In
review,
we
will
provide
overview
advantages
current
challenges
directions
graphic
medicine.

The Digital Comic as a Study Tool for Caribbean Computer Science Students: A Pilot Study

Despite
the
proven
efficacy
of
digital
comic
books
(digital
comics
for
short)
as
an
educational
tool
in
various
instructional
settings
across
North
America
and
Europe,
there
is
a
noticeable
lack
studies
examining
their
impact
within
English-speaking
Caribbean
context.
This
paper
aims
to
fill
this
gap
by
exploring
West
Indian
setting,
specifically
tertiary-level
Computer
Science
Barbados.
The
findings
from
our
pilot
study,
present
complex
picture.
While
students
generally
viewed
positively
agreed
on
potential
effective
learning
tools,
majority
did
not
actually
use
book
studying.
Furthermore,
these
report
better
understanding
subject
compared
those
who
used
traditional
study
materials.
