Abstract Social connection is an understudied target of intervention for the health individuals providing care a family member with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). To guide future research, we discuss considerations interventions to promote social connection, particular focus on reducing loneliness: (a) include caregiver perspectives in designing delivering interventions; (b) adapt stages dementia; (c) consider caregiving demands, including use brief (d) specify measure mechanisms action principles (e) dissemination implementation at all research. With support from National Institute Aging Roybal Center Translational Research Behavioral Sciences Aging, are developing portfolio mechanism-informed principle-driven behavioral ADRD caregivers that can be flexibly applied meet diverse set needs while maximizing resources demands caregivers.

Background College students are at heightened risk for negative psychological outcomes due to COVID-19. We examined the prevalence of distress and its association with social isolation among public university in southern United States. Methods A cross-sectional survey was emailed all University North Carolina-Chapel Hill June 2020 open two weeks. Students self-reported if they were self-isolating none, some, most, or time. Validated screening instruments used assess clinically significant symptoms depression, loneliness, increased perceived stress. The data weighted complete student population. Results 7,012 completed surveys included. Almost two-thirds (64%) reported depressive 65% categorized as lonely.
