Changes in family and school environment during the Covid-19 pandemic and their relationship with changes in psychological distress and loneliness among Norwegian adolescents: The HUNT study

Associations of sport and exercise participation in adolescence with body composition and device-measured physical activity in adulthood: longitudinal data from the Norwegian HUNT study

To
examine
whether
adolescent
sport
and
exercise
participation
is
associated
with
adulthood
moderate-to-vigorous
physical
activity
(MVPA),
body
fat,
skeletal
muscle
mass,
mass
index
(BMI),
to
explore
the
association
between
adult
composition
depends
on
MVPA
level.
Prospective
study
of
4603
adolescents
aged
13-18
year
(57.2%
female)
in
Norwegian
Young-HUNT
Study
follow-up
~
11
or
22
years
later.
Linear
regression
was
used
estimate
mean
differences
accelerometer-measured
bioimpedance-measured

self-reported
adolescence.
Adolescents
participating
sport/exercise
every
day
accumulated
more
(48
min/week,

Background
Adolescent
mental
health
challenges
are
on
the
rise
globally,
and
Norway
is
no
exception.
Wildlife
activities
(WAs)
have
been
increasingly
promoted
as
a
potential
measure
to
improve
adolescent
well-being.
However,
there
limited
research
extent
of
participation
in
these
its
association
with
distress
among
Norwegian
adolescents.
Aim
This
study
has
twofold
aim:
explore
degree
WAs
examine
between
this
distress.
Methods
The
design
was
cross-sectional,
using
Young-HUNT
data
from
collected
2017
2019.
A
total
6,361
participants
were
included
final
sample.
Participants
categorized
based
their
level
WAs,
ordinal
regression
analysis
conducted
assess
factors
associated
wildlife
activity.
Furthermore,
multivariate
linear
assessed
activity
Results
majority
reported
low
levels
(34.6%)
or
medium
(53.2%)
engagement
WAs.
Adjusted
analyses
showed
that
higher
range
factors,
particularly
female
sex,
having
both
parents
born
Norway,
maintaining
high
physical
weak
yet
statistically
significant
relationship

increased
participants.
Conclusion
Various
sociodemographic,
lifestyle,
social
influence
involvement
observed
but
raises
questions
about
assumption
nature
universally
beneficial
for
health.
These
results
highlight
need
further
underlying
mechanisms
relationship.

policymakers
against
making
generalized
claims
benefits
without
deeper
consideration
