ABSTRACT
Since
the
1990s,
there
has
been
a
lot
of
research
on
women
in
policing
and
resistance
to
their
entry
into
field.
Much
examined
specific
(i.e.,
individualized
based
perceived
performance),
whereas
fewer
studies
today
examine
global
police
general).
Applying
role
congruity
theory,
by
men
coworkers,
administrators,
public
was
for
national
sample
358
United
States
law
enforcement.
It
found
that
enforcement
received
slightly
more
from
public,

resistance,

and
communities.
Discrimination
against
transgender
by
police
officers
may
result
avoiding
interactions
with
law
enforcement.
With
a
surge

policing
training
initiatives
aimed
at
identifying
eliminating
biases
among
officers,
laws
prohibiting
enforcement

study
explores
individuals’
perceptions
experiences

find
that
respondents

not
feel
comfortable

police,

Purpose
This
paper
provides
a
discussion
of
evidence
supporting
strategic,
targeted
recruitment
for
increasing
minority
representation
in
police
agencies
