Purpose of review There is increasing interest in the connection between sleep disturbances and mood disorders. The purpose this to summarize evaluate current research on role disturbance development depression, as well describe recent advances treatments that improve both depression symptoms. Recent findings Relevant publications included cover a wide range topics related depression. Data from large longitudinal studies suggest insomnia evening circadian preference are unique risk factors for Depression treatment indicate poorer outcomes those with comorbid disturbances. A few trials cognitive behavioral therapy triple chronotherapy unipolar have shown promising results. Summary Sleep modifiable factor maintenance In context although data mixed, some evidence suggests treating can overall outcomes. also may prevent future depressive episodes.

Childhood and peer experiences can influence adolescents' perceptions of interpersonal relationships, which can, in turn, their emotional states behavior patterns. Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is now a common problem among adolescents. The present study examined the role childhood trauma victimization NSSI.A cross-sectional survey was conducted 1783 adolescents (1464 girls 318 boys) psychiatric outpatient clinics or wards 14 hospitals general nine provinces China. Data were collected using Multidimensional Peer Victimization Scale (MPVS), Short-form Trauma Questionnaire(CTQ-SF), Functional Assessment Self-Mutilation (FASM). Structural equation modeling (SEM) with latent variables used to demonstrate mediating association between childhoodtrauma NSSI.The SEM analysis demonstrated that plays partial relationship NSSI. In addition, several covariates (such as age, gender, education level, place residence) effectively regulated NSSI.In future studies NSSI Chinese adolescents, attention should be paid roles bullying; there temporal sequence these two and, some extent, have an impact on bullying during adolescence which, influences behavior.

Abstract Adolescent sleep quality and quantity is commonly linked to worse emotion regulation. One maladaptive regulation strategy that on the rise non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), which includes burning, hitting, or scratching one’s own body tissue without suicidal intent. The aim of this study was explore frequency NSSI among different longitudinal trajectories insomnia symptoms short duration identify at-risk adolescents. We used questionnaire data collected annually (3 time points over 2 years) from a sample Swedish adolescents (N = 1,294; M age 13.2 [range: 12–15 years], SD 0.4; 46.8% girls). Adolescents answered questions about their duration, insomnia, NSSI, depressive symptoms, demographics. who reported persistent increasing problems also more NSSI. A notable pattern whose were high highest compared started at same level but improved time. Therefore, measuring may help risk-group for self-injury. Because disturbances, especially go hand-in-hand most adolescents, interventions would benefit treatment prevention

Sleep is important for adolescent development and has been linked to a variety of mental health difficulties. New research suggests that sleep irregularity may be more clinically relevant than relying on mean values. This study aimed (1) quantify the relationship between regularity index (SRI), novel parameter reflecting probability an individual will in same state [asleep or awake] 24 h apart, other actigraphy-derived rest-activity metrics, (2) evaluate concurrent prospective associations SRI symptoms (depressive substance use), (3) test sex as moderator. At baseline, community-based sample adolescents (n = 295, 56.27% female, 58.98% White, age 15.44) wore actiwatch 1 week measure rhythms sleep-wake cycles. Actigraphy data were used derive SRI, nonparametric indices. Adolescents also completed self-report measures use depression at baseline 6-month follow-up. Partial correlations indicated individuals with had less interdaily stability, robust relative amplitude, lower efficiency, shorter total time, longer onset latency, social jetlag, later midpoint. Regression analyses revealed was associated lifetime history use, first-onset increase depressive symptoms, even after accounting duration subjective disturbances. The potential modifiable risk factor enhancing health.
