Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led to significant changes in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) protocols, including restrictions on parental visitation and suspension of kangaroo mother care. These modifications likely impacted preterm infants' neurodevelopmental outcomes. While previous studies have examined the short-term developmental effects pandemic, long-term consequences remain unclear. This study aimed assess impact pandemic-related NICU outcomes infants at 18 months corrected age Japan. Methodology: retrospective, single-center was conducted a Japanese university hospital included born before during COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible were those with gestational less than 32 weeks or birth weight under 1,500 g, who subsequently underwent assessment using Kyoto Scale Psychological Development 2001 (KSPD). Infants categorized into prepandemic group (born March 1, 2020) after 2020). To compare demographic clinical characteristics between groups, Mann-Whitney U test employed for continuous variables chi-square categorical variables. All statistical analyses performed predefined significance level p < 0.05. Results: A total 44 (22 per group). there no differences morbidities had significantly older (30 vs. 28 weeks, = 0.04). KSPD assessments revealed that lower cognitive-adaptive (80 92, 0.01) language-social (73 89, 0.04) quotients (DQ) compared group. Postural-motor DQ but did not reach (82 98, 0.14). account potential confounders, an analysis covariance conducted, adjusting age, weight, sex. adjusted remained consistent unadjusted findings, confirming (F 4.83, 0.03) 3.94, Gestational sex associated any scores. Conclusions: Preterm exhibited DQs infants. findings suggest involvement may potentially influenced neurodevelopment. Further research is needed explore trajectories interventions support optimal this vulnerable population.

For families with young children, securing reliable childcare may present a significant challenge. Rising costs, limited resources and the COVID-19 pandemic have heightened precarity of arrangements. Childcare precarity, defined as state insecure or unreliable arrangements while parents work attend school, reflects unpredictability in family life early care education settings has important implications for families' economic psychosocial well-being. This study aims at broadening conceptualization to include search status examine its association caregiver child emotional distress. Participants were 3115 caregivers United States (88% female, 67% white) who completed RAPID Survey between November 2022 December 2023 reported working attending school. We assess whether including an indicator improves cross-sectional prediction distress beyond commonly used indicators (unreliability disruptions). Using person-centred approach, we also conduct exploratory latent class analysis (LCA) identify distinct experiences associated unreliability disruptions was fear/anxiety, fussiness/defiance. linked both distress, improving model fit compared baseline models. Our LCA identified five-class solution optimal, outcomes varying significantly across classes correlating levels precarity. findings highlight importance multidimensional approach Identifying profiles can inform targeted policy interventions support diverse needs. Future research should validate these explore broader impact unpredictability.
