Abstract Entomophagy (consumption of insects) has been proposed as one the important solutions to food crisis caused by population growth. Despite a long history insect consumption, numerous challenges have arisen that question feasibility using insects source. It should be notifying Acheta domesticus (house cricket) is recently approved Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/188 novel ingredient. Gaining comprehensive understanding house cricket paramount for fostering proper appreciation its potential This review aims provide and in‐depth information on cricket, covering various aspects such bioecology, nutritional value, health benefits, harvesting rearing, processing methods use Additionally, consumer acceptance will discussed specific why it gained approval in European Union also provided. The consumption crickets both feed. They are environmentally friendly rear, making them an attractive option human consumption. House particular, holds promise sustainable alternative traditional farming conventional sources due pharmaceutical properties. Different enhance potential. Black soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens; BSFL) can transform organic wastes into nutritional biomass useful in animal feeding. The aim of this work was to study the effect five diets (meat, fruit, vegetable substrates, a mix them and control) on profile fatty acids (FA) sterols BSFL. For more exhaustive characterization properties, esterified FAs sn-2 position triglycerides, most absorbed lipid component during digestion, evaluated. dietary estimated two different H. illucens populations (Greek - UTH Italian UNIPI). diet affected all fractions examined. Nutrition is the single most important factor for individual's growth and reproduction. Consequently, inability to reach nutritional optimum imposes severe consequences animal fitness. Yet, under natural conditions, organisms may face a mixture of stressors that can modulate effects asymmetry. For instance, stressful environments caused by intense interaction with conspecifics. Here, we subjected house cricket Acheta domesticus (i) either two types diet have proved affect performance (ii) simultaneously manipulated their social environment throughout complete life cycle. We aimed track sex-specific multiple traits during insect development all stages. Both factors affected critical life-history potential population-level consequences: composition induced strong on time, lifespan fitness, while number nymphs completed development, food consumption whole-body lipid content. Additionally, both interactively determined female body mass. Our results highlight insects acquire invest resources in different manner when an conspecifics or isolated. Furthermore, only individual reproductive output, would determine females, thus indirectly influencing population performance.

Insects need a sufficient quantity of macro- and micronutrients in their diet for maximising growth, development, reproduction. To achieve high efficiency the mass production particular insect species, quality given must be considered, both terms its chemical (nutrients) physical (hardness form) characteristics. Black soldier fly (BSF), Hermetia illucens (L.) (Diptera: Stratiomyidae), is beneficial widely reared due to easy cost-effective maintenance. An example end-product BSF larvae (BSFL) known as oil, which can used animal feed, raw material bar/liquid soap, biodiesel. obtain best oil produced from BSFL, finding an optimal substrate through mixing or manipulation quite necessitated. Fatty acids with more than 18 carbons should found absorbed into fat BSFL high-quality oil. There positive correlation between fatty acid concentration that influenced by substrate. This emphasises importance substrate’s content incorporating these Although oils are especially medium-chain monounsaturated acids, yet, produce on such large scale requiring further investigations.

It is increasingly clear that social environments have profound impacts on the life histories of ‘non-social’ animals. However, it not yet well known how species with varying degrees sociality respond to different contexts and whether such effects are sex-specific. To survey extent which specifically affect lifespan ageing in non-social species, we performed a systematic literature review, focusing invertebrates but excluding eusocial insects. We found 80 studies or parameters were measured relation changes same-sex opposite-sex exposure, group size cues thereof. Most focused manipulations adults, often reporting sex differences following exposure opposite sex. Some highlighted developmental partner age lifespan. Several explored potential underlying mechanisms, emphasizing insects could provide excellent opportunities interrogate basis ageing. discuss what these can tell us about environment as stressor, trade-offs resources prompted by contexts. suggest fruitful avenues for further research across wider more diverse range taxa. Abstract Half of the organic waste generated by mankind is compostable. Many traditional methods food treatment generate pernicious effects on ecosystems, such as leachates, greenhouse gases, pathogenic microorganisms or odors. Three cockroach species that are widespread live for feeding exotic animals (mainly reptiles) due to their high growth rates, consumption, production and quality blatticompost: Madagascar hissing ( Aeluropoda insignis Butler), Guyana spotted Blaptica dubia Serville) ivory Eublaberus sp. ) has been evaluated. Neither weight–length ratios (W–L) nor body condition index (K rel three studied were statistically different between control groups. Average intakes per animal day 0.93 g in , 2.22 2.58 . Blatticompost rates 0.11, 0.75 0.52 / animal*day, respectively. Taking into account differences size density individuals, this implies an average consumption 1015.9 g/m 2 *day, which 26.7% would be transformed blatticompost considering together. This equivalent 304.8 mt/ha*month recycled, a 81.4 estimated gas emission savings 817.2 mt/ha*month. Results indicate any viable alternative, although presents ideal characteristics.
