Biological
invasions
can
result
in
the
co-introduction
of
parasitic
hitchhikers.
These
'invasive
parasites'
include
viruses,
bacteria,
fungi,
protists
and
metazoan
symbionts,
they
have
diverse
effects
on
ecological
evolutionary
dynamics
their
invasive
hosts
recipient
communities.
Some
parasites
are
agents
disease,
spread
these
could
ultimately
harm
biodiversity,
global
economies

health.
In

we
highlight
significance
researching
understanding
parasite
invasions,
key
examples
that
demonstrate
why
investigations
should
be
a
critical
scientific
objective
across
institutions

Abstract
Climate
change
is
causing
habitat
salinity
to
transform
at
unprecedented
rates
across
the
globe.
While
much
of
research
on
climate
has
focused
rapid
shifts
in
temperature,
far
less
attention
effects
changes
environmental
salinity.
Consequently,
predictive
studies
physiological,
evolutionary,
and
migratory
responses
organisms
populations
threats

relatively
lacking.

represents

oversight,

that

Abstract
Foundation
species
like
the
eastern
oyster
(
Crassostrea
virginica
)
create
complex
habitats
for
organisms
across
multiple
trophic
levels.
Historic
declines
in
abundance
have
prompted
decades
of
restoration
efforts.
However,
it
remains
unclear
how
long

life
history
traits

Coevolutionary
relationships

parasites
and
their
hosts
can
lead
to
the
emergence
of
diverse
phenotypes
over

fungi

Marine
species

expanding
polewards
with
rising
temperatures.In

Northwest
Atlantic,

Invasions

pathogens
and
parasites
can
have
far-reaching
ecological
consequences
in
their
recipient
ecosystems.

this
chapter,
we
provide
a
conceptual
overview

various
mechanisms
underlying
these
consequences,
which
illustrate
using
examples
from
literature.

first
describe
different
ways
invasive
interact
with
hosts

ecosystems

Abstract
Growing
evidence
suggests
that
microbiomes
have
been
shaping
the
evolutionary
pathways
of
macroorganisms
for
millennia
and
these
tiny
symbionts
can
influence,
possibly
even
control,
species
interactions
like
host–parasite
relationships.
Yet,
while
studies
investigated
host–parasites
separately,
little
has
done
to
understand
all
three
groups
synergistically.
Here,
we
collected
infected
uninfected
Eurypanopeus
depressus
crab
hosts
from
a
coastal
North
Carolina
oyster
reef
times
over
4
months.
Infected
crabs
demonstrated
an
external
stage
rhizocephalan
parasite,
Loxothylacus
panopaei
.
Community
analyses
revealed
microbial
richness
diversity
were
significantly
different
among
tissue
types
(uninfected
crab,
parasite
externae
larvae)
time
(summer
fall).

communities

similar
consistent
