Accurate estimation of evaporation is great significance for understanding regional drought, and managing applying limited water resources in dryland. However, the application traditional approaches due to lack required meteorological parameters or experimental conditions. In this study, a novel hybrid model was proposed estimate monthly pan Ep dryland by integrating long short-term memory (LSTM) with grey wolf optimizer (GWO) algorithm Kendall-τ correlation coefficient, where GWO employed find optimal hyper-parameters LSTM, coefficient used determine input combination variables. The performance compared other methods based on evaluation metrics, including root mean squared error (RMSE), normalized (NMSE), absolute (MAE), percentage (MAPE), Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSCE). results indicated that Kendall-τ-GWO-LSTM models are average temperature, minimum air maximum values RMSE, NMSE, MAE, MAPE 38.28, 0.20, 26.62, 19.96%, NSCE 0.89, suggesting exhibit better than models. Thus, highly recommended estimating information present investigation provides method variables coupling deep learning meta-heuristic algorithms data preprocessing techniques.

Abstract Models have become a key component of scientific hypothesis testing and climate sustainability planning, as enabled by increased data availability computing power. As result, understanding how the perceived ‘complexity’ model corresponds to its accuracy predictive power has prevalent research topic. However, wide variety definitions complexity been proposed used, leading an imprecise what is consequences across studies, study systems, disciplines. Here, we propose more explicit definition complexity, incorporating four facets—model class, inputs, parameters, computational complexity—which are modulated real‐world process being modelled. We illustrate these facets with several examples drawn from ecological literature. Overall, argue that precise terminology metrics (e.g., number inputs) may be necessary characterize emergent outcomes including comparison, performance, transferability decision support.

Preserving and restoring biodiversity is becoming a great challenge as we face world where planetary boundaries will likely be crossed over the following decades. Such needs to consider multiple scales of complexity, both in space time. A common threat most cases presence nonlinear phenomena generating shifts among alternative states. These breaking points imply new perception risk different management strategies. broad range affect preservation healthy communities constrain ways deal with conservation, from local features associated habitat loss or facilitation mesoscale global network-level ecological complexity role played by extreme events. How are these connected? can emergent properties ecosystem dynamics exploited? Here synthesis ideas presented, complex systems view involved, separating them, universal that allow defining simple models on each scale.
