Reciprocity towards nature in the biodiversity science–policy interface

Abstract The notion of reciprocity between humans and the rest living world is receiving increasing attention in environmental sciences science–policy international bodies. Here we first discuss different meanings reciprocity, then this relation to conceptual framework Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity Ecosystem Services (IPBES), date most prominent mechanism informing interface nature. “With or without payment I conserve”: The fabric of intrinsic, instrumental and relational values in payments for ecosystem services

Environmental management and policy approaches based on singular values (e.g., intrinsic or instrumental) tend to oversimplify human-nature relationships, often marginalizing local compromising both equity effectiveness. Although Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) have been criticized their instrumental, market-based orientation, these programs the potential reflect a diversity of values, depending how they are designed implemented. A Classification and Interpretation of Methodological Approaches to Pursue Natural Capital Valuation in Forest Research

This paper reviews natural capital (NC) valuation approaches in the context of woodland, forest, and riparian ecosystems, emphasising need for participatory methods to take priority over neoclassical economics approaches.
